Claire Danes Attends TCA Winter Tour
15
January
2010

Stepping out for a promotional appearance, Claire Danes was spotted at the 2010 Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, California last night (January 14).

The “Romeo and Juliet” actress looked fabulous as she posed for the paparazzi inside the Langham Hotel, sporting a dark red dress with strappy beige heels.

Coming up on the career front, Claire will be playing Dr. Temple Grandin, a high-functioning autistic woman who also happens to have a doctorate in Animal Science and a best-selling book.

The HBO biopic “Temple Grandin” is already being heralded as a fantastic film and a fascinating look into the world of autism.

Claire Danes on HBO Original
15
January
2010

HBO’s three-hour slot at the TCAs in Pasadena will shed light on a smattering of new projects, and Movieline will dutifully report what soundbites it can gather amid the hordes of inquiring reporters. HBO first showcased its original biopic Temple Grandin, which chronicles the life of the titular bestselling author and consultant to the livestock industry who also has high-functioning autism. The pantheon of cinema that explores autism is filled with lauded projects (Rain Man, the recent Asperger’s Syndrome romance, Adam). Following the press conference that featured the actual Temple Grandin, star Claire Danes, whose performance in the film as Grandin is sharply rendered, explained to Movieline that the project adds new dimensions to a familiar cinematic streak.

She also hinted that her performance may have been aided by her husband Hugh Dancy.

“Well, my husband played an autistic person six months before I did this, in Adam. So that was curious. But Temple is no ordinary autistic person. She’s a superstar, and she’s a pioneer, and the first person to write about it as somebody who has it. And that was radical. That was, kind of by definition, impossible, because they weren’t able to communicate with others. She managed to do that so well, and with such clarity. I think that’s what defines [the movie] for me.”

Temple Grandin debuts on HBO this February.

Temple Grandin on HBO
5
January
2010

Autism and raising cattle may not sound like the perfect ingredients for a successful Hollywood project, but they actually come together quite beautifully in HBO’s upcoming drama, Temple Grandin.

In the film, Claire Danes plays the real-life Temple Grandin, a woman with autism whose parents were told by doctors in the 1950s that she may never speak and should probably be institutionalized.

Her mother (Julia Ormond) refused to accept the prognosis and began to home school her.

Now 62, Grandin is an animal scientist, best-selling author and leading autism advocate. She is considered a pioneer in the development of more humane slaughterhouses.

Danes is in her finest form with a supporting cast that includes Ormond, Catherine O’Hara and David Strathaim.

Take a look at this exclusive sneak peek for just a hint of what you’ll see and hear when Temple Grandin debuts on HBO on Feb. 6.

First Look: Temple Grandin

In HBO’s February biopic, Temple Grandin, Claire Danes worked with an amazing cast that included Julia Ormond, David Strathairn, and Catherine O’Hara to tell the true story of the scientist whose own autism allowed her unique insights into the behavior of cows and other livestock. But Danes says she was just as charmed by her bovine costars.

“They had long lashes and were so sweet,”Danes recalls. “They were referred to as the HBO Cows because it was cheaper for HBO to buy them than rent them. So I dressed on Halloween as an HBO Cow. With an extension chord as a tail.”
