Claire Danes, Michelle Williams, Winona Ryder and other Hollywood stars will feature in a new documentary about Australian singer Ben Lee.

Titled Ben Lee: Catch My Disease, the feature-length documentary paints an intimate portrait of the 30-year-old star who recorded his first album at age 14.

Lee is famous for hits like We’re All in This Together, Catch My Disease and Cigarettes Will Kill You, and has won several ARIA Awards.

The project, which has been seven years in the making, is by acclaimed documentary and short film director Amiel Courtin-Wilson, who has made video clips for bands like Gelbison, The Avalanches and Joel Turner.

The documentary is about pop music, spirituality, fame, family and celebrity, and includes archival, performance and interview footage with Lee and many of his famous friends, such as former girlfriend Danes.

It has received funding from the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) Premiere Fund, and will have its first Australian screening at MIFF next year.

Lee will release his new album, The Rebirth of Venus, in February.
